Yes. Burnhopeside Hall and The Cottage can be booked either individually or together as one rental, making it ideal for larger family gatherings, celebrations or groups wishing to stay close together while enjoying additional space.

The Hall comfortably sleeps larger parties of up to 16. The six luxurious bedrooms sleep up to 12 (four super-king and two king), while three rooms also have fold- out beds available, to accommodate 4 more. The Cottage sleeps up to 4 in beautiful super-king bedrooms, perfect for smaller parties, or to book together with the Hall for extra guests (sleeping up to 20 when booked together).

Absolutely. We are proud to be a dog-friendly estate and well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement, at no extra charge. With 15 acres of grounds available for guests to enjoy, it is the perfect location to stay with your dog. When dogs are booked in, you will find on arrival a dog bed, bowls, towels and plenty of throws available, as well as the dedicated ‘dog wash’ in a roll top bath in the stable yard. Dogs even get their own welcome hamper!

Please note that Burnhopeside Hall and the Cottage can be booked separately so, unless you book them both combined for exclusive use, it may be possible there will be guests staying in the other property using the shared areas of the grounds.

Set within acres of countryside, with beautiful walks nearby, Burnhopeside Hall is the ideal destination for both you and your four-legged companions.

There are extensive private gardens and woodlands surrounding the Burnhopeside Hall and the Cottage, most of which is fenced or walled. However, the boundaries are not pet-proof and it is not fully enclosed, so it is essential that dogs are supervised and under close control at all times. This is very important due to the surrounding farmland, livestock and wildlife, and to respect areas that may be shared with other guests. For some complete freedom off the leash, our Doggieland private dog adventure fields are fully enclosed and secure.

Yes. Complimentary private parking is available for all guests with plenty of space for multiple vehicles. EV charging is available by prior booking.

Where possible, we are happy to discuss early arrivals or later departures.

Yes. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the Hall and Cottage. Although performance cannot be guaranteed, we seek to provide a fast (e.g. >100Mbps) connection in all areas inside the property.

Yes. Both properties feature fully-equipped kitchens with dishwasher, bean to cup coffee machine, cooker, hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, utensils, and beautiful crockery and glassware - everything you need for comfortable self-catering. Or if you fancy a break from cooking but don’t want to travel, speak to us about the amazing private chef we can arrange!

Yes. Luxury white bed linen (800 thread count Egyptian cotton) and beautifully fluffy towels are all provided for every guest. Eco-conscious toiletries are also supplied.

Yes. Families are very welcome. The spacious rooms, extensive gardens and countryside setting make Burnhopeside Hall ideal for multi-generational family holidays. Half a mile away, you can access the Lanchester Valley walk - miles of traffic-free railway path, great for walking or cycling with children. There are also many local attractions perfect for kids, such as farm visits, Diggerland and much more in Durham and Newcastle.

Burnhopeside Hall Estate has been designed to blend the best of a historic countryside estate with easy access to the modern world. So, while you will find ample space to relax, enjoy nature or play games outside, indoors you will also find fast internet, large smart TVs and Bluetooth soundbars in the downstairs rooms, sitting alongside more traditional board games, a grand piano within the library and full-sized billiard room. Upstairs, universal charging docks and smart TVs are found in each bedroom.

Burnhopeside Hall Estate is a fantastic location to get family and friends together, so we welcome respectful celebrations and family gatherings. As a historic country house that you can rent in its entirety, it provides a unique location for a get together to celebrate that special occasion. To make it extra special, we can source extras from local suppliers including flowers and even a private chef.

Please note, all stays must comply with our Booking T&Cs and House Rules (found on our website and also agreed upon booking). These outline important safety considerations with regard to maximum occupancy of the property and stipulate that only registered guests are permitted.

Yes. Lanchester village is very close (1 mile) and offers shops, restaurants, pubs, and essential services. There are larger supermarkets just a short drive away (<5 miles).

Yes. Whilst the property is provided as a holiday let, our fast Wi-Fi, peaceful surroundings and spacious accommodation make Burnhopeside Hall Estate an excellent choice for stays combining work with a countryside retreat.

Smoking, including e-cigarettes and vapes, is strictly prohibited inside the Property or in the thatched pavilion in the garden. If you wish to smoke or vape, this is possible on the outside patio areas behind the property, where metal ash buckets are provided by the back door.

Yes, but EV charging must be prebooked before your stay. There is currently one dedicated charging point available.

Yes. Most major supermarkets deliver to Burnhopeside Hall. Many guests arrange a grocery delivery for shortly after arrival. We provide some essentials for all guests in a welcome hamper. If you would like a few more items to get your stay started, you can upgrade to a luxury or breakfast hamper during the booking process, or contact us prior to your stay. All produce in our hampers is locally sourced from independent businesses.

Simply yourselves. The properties are fully equipped with kitchen essentials, crockery, cookware, bed linen and towels. We recommend bringing outdoor footwear for exploring the grounds and surrounding countryside.

Burnhopeside Hall Estate is approximately 15 minutes from the historic city of Durham, making it the perfect base to explore its cobbled streets, independent shops, cafés and world-famous cathedral while enjoying the peace of the countryside.

Beamish Museum is around a 15-minute drive from the estate, making it one of our most popular days out for families and visitors wanting to experience life in the North East through the ages.

Yes. Lanchester is only 1 mile away and offers a good selection of cafes, restaurants, pubs and take-aways. Ravello’s Italian is our personal favourite. There are many pubs in surrounding villages and restaurants in Durham city. Taxis are readily available. You are welcome to contact us with any questions.

Yes. Newcastle city centre is approximately 30 minutes away by car, making it easy to enjoy shopping, restaurants, theatres, sporting events and nightlife before returning to the peace of the estate.

Tyne and Wear’s beautiful coastline can be reached in around 40 minutes, including the beaches at Seaham, South Shields and Tynemouth. For miles of quiet sand dunes, beaches and castles, the exceptional Northumberland coast is 1 hour away.

Yes. County Durham has several excellent golf courses within a short drive, suitable for both casual players and championship level courses.
